Financial Campership Opportunities Summer 2010 applications are due by June 1, 2010.
BACKGROUND: Orienteering skills are life-long skills that build confidence in Scouts and can aid in survival. Learning how to read a map and use a compass are skills which can be utilized in any high adventure activity. The Scout Orienteering Challenge is an annual event created to teach these skills and to give Scouts a practical opportunity to practice the skills and to have fun in Scouting. One of the objectives of the Challenge is to utilize any excess revenues raised to financially support Scouts, Scouters and Scout units embarking on high adventure activities to such places as Philmont Scout Ranch, Florida Sea Base, the Northern Tier, other BSA or Girl Scout camps with high adventure experiences, or unit-organized comparable adventure activities.
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA. Campership applications can be found on the O Meet website, www.scout-o-challenge.org . Applicants must be BSA registered Scouts, Venturers or adult Scouters, or registered Girl Scouts or trained Leaders. Applicants will be asked to identify how they plan to integrate maps and compasses in the adventure experience. A separate statement of support is to be provided by the Scoutmaster (SM) or the Committee Chair (CC) of the unit on behalf of the applicant. A SM or CC may submit an application for financial assistance on behalf of the whole Troop, Crew or unit. Confidentiality is requested to protect applicant privacy.
FUNDING USES. Funding can be used for program admission fees, transportation, and other direct activity expenses while traveling with the unit. Funding cannot be used for food. Funding is provided directly to the unit for application to the applicant’s fees. Occasionally there are fee-based training requirements for Scouts or Scouters such as Wilderness First Aid. O Meet funding can be used for this purpose. Funding approved for a specific Scout who does not end up attending the unit activity is to be returned to the Scout O Challenge for reallocation. Contact Adraggin@swbell.net for information.
PROCEDURE: Email application requests to Adraggin@swbell.net . Youth and adults are to use the Individual Application. Units are to use the Unit Application. A selection team will review applications and respond to the Scoutmaster within approximately two weeks of receipt. Summer 2010 applications are due by June 1, 2010. Available to download using
